YOUR HOSTING TEAM

Each of us individually come with years of life and leadership experience. We have similarities that cohere us. We have differences that bring richness and depth. We expect much fun together, some mischief, and depth of discovery with all of you.

I met Jeremy Nash at a recent leadership workshop that I was co-hosting. Friends told us we should meet each other. I’m glad they did! I’m excited about this gathering for what it can do to build something very much alive in the Colorado region -- a meaningful commitment to evolving the edges of leadership and community.

I am a facilitator, workshop leader, speaker, and writer. I post a daily blog, Human to Human, in which I offer reflection on varied aspects of participative leadership practices, insights, and human to human depth. My work with participative forms over the last 20+ years has been to  design and lead meetings in participative formats. From strategic visioning with boards to large conference design. Lately I have been working with faith communities, educators, and public health leaders. My lineages include The Berkana Institute, The Circle Way, and The Art of Hosting.

I have been teaching about Leadership and Change for over 20 years. I was born in Boulder and glad to be coming home to bring the Art of Hosting practices as well as support the powerful efforts happening in the region and beyond! I work with teams to design and lead strategic events and change efforts. My most recent projects include a 9-month learning lab for Vermont Accountable Communities of Health; a 9-month learning lab addressing breastfeeding rates and hospital / community partnership; working with Self-Healing Communities in Washington State; launching a webinar for NEAR Science Solutions; a dialog on the future of education, a statewide convening on Making Sense of Sea Level Rise, and a series of retreats for a national faith organization.

I am a transformational coach and a geek about the Neurosciences & Epigenetics. Since 2003 I have been involved in statewide efforts to reduce trauma in our communities, generation to generation. This lead me to study bio-energetic healing practices, personal mastery, and NEAR Sciences (Neurobiology, Epigenetics, ACE’s and Resilience). I was the facilitator for the first NEAR Science national think tank and a statewide Early Learning Symposium.

I experienced my first Art of Hosting (AOH) training in 2011. I resonated strongly with the participatory approach to leadership. When I put some of the approaches to work in my workshops, I noticed the increases in clients' energy, creativity, and ownership. It's as if people were waiting for this. After my second AOH, November, 2016, where I met Tenneson and Teresa, I've become more attuned to the nature of hosting and how that shifts engagement - and our attention to issues and challenges that really matter - even more. The natural, next step for me was to "call" this Art of Hosting training in Colorado. I am delighted to bring this here especially at this time when the world and our communities are waiting for us.

I’ve been committed for over 30 years to having leaders and their teams address their most pressing challenges in creative, transformational ways. I've worked with leaders of for and not-for profits, including some of the largest Fortune 500 firms. I've also worked with all layers of management and the workforce. Working with leaders to create strong relationships has always been an essential ingredient in creating a foundation for results. My lineage includes in-depth learning under Dr. Fernando Flores, Julio Olalla, and most recently, Dr. Jean Houston. I just completed my second Masters degree, in Leadership and Social Transformation, through Meridian University.

I’m a pastor in the United Church of Christ, based in Loveland, CO. I’ve recently become Associate Conference Minister of the Rocky Mountain Conference, charged to develop deeper practices of inner and outer, participative and collaborative leadership across communities in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho. I am passionate about community and hosting space where people are able to come as they are and become more of who they are meant to be. It’s common to hear in church, and in community work, “we have too many meetings!” or “people don’t want to go to more meetings!” That’s true – if the meetings are disconnected, not engaging, and don’t seem to accomplish much. But if we are honest – ”meetings” that is, people coming together for a common purpose, is central to all of us. We aren’t going to get rid of meetings. But we can change how we meet. And that is a big part of what Art of Hosting has given me.

I love Art of Hosting for the depth of connection, friendship, curiosity and meaningful action that happen. I first experienced AoH with Tenneson and Teresa in about 2006. It touched me in profound ways. I left with two new cherished friends. And I experienced the collective wisdom that can emerge in the “breathing pulse” between chaos and order. In the past 20 years, I’ve trained in gazillions of methodologies, from group work to somatic psychotherapy and healing trauma. AoH holds a special place. I am so grateful to Jeremy for calling AoH to Boulder!

In my professional life, I guide “next generation” leaders to get clear about their purpose, to bring it to life, and to be more effective. I also help start-ups to get off the ground, and to move their vision forward. I am committed to co-creating a more peaceful society, and a fairer, more just economy. To that I bring over 30 years of global experience as an executive coach, strategy consultant, group facilitator, thought leader and teacher; and over 20 years as a committed practitioner of meditation and yoga.
